Who was Zygmunt Bauman?
Zygmunt Bauman was a Polish-British sociologist whose career span many decades. He earned his BA and MA from the university of Warsaw, where he lived during the last 40 years of his life. Bauman spent the first years of his career as an officer in a Polish unit under Russian command. After his service he moved back to Poland where he began studying sociology at the University of Warsaw.

Zygmunt Bauman dealt with a broad range of topics: globalisation, ‘otherness’, social media, happiness and modernity to name but a few. But while he made many observations and analyses about these issues, he is usually not credited with establishing a theory as such, except for the term ‘liquid modernity’.
